Prenatal Care You Deserve

Prenatal care is an essential component of your pregnancy journey. Good prenatal care helps ensure better pregnancy and baby outcomes and prevents complications later. At Roots Community Birth Center, we empower mothers to partake in their care to feel more involved and heard.

If you’re pregnant or planning for a baby, it is important to find  the right place and provider for your prenatal care needs. At Roots Community Birth Center, we believe in building a relationship based on trust and understanding with our clients. This helps ensure that you receive the care that you deserve, based on the decisions that you make!

What does a prenatal care appointment look like?

Every visit, we want to take the time to focus on what’s important to each specific client. We’ll check how you’re doing physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We also like to talk about how your family is doing, and we want to make sure your kids feel welcome! We’ll make sure that you understand what’s happening in your body and what choices are available to you.

During the appointment, your midwife will spend time explaining the different tests you may want to do and let you know the risks and benefits. You’ll have grounded, evidence-based information so that you’re confident in the decision you take.

For a good prenatal appointment, it is important that you stay involved and informed with your care. We really believe in shared decision-making, so we won’t spring decisions on you. Do not hesitate to ask questions or address any concerns that you might have.

During your prenatal visit we’ll also:

  • take your blood pressure
  • measure your baby’s growth
  • check your baby’s position

We’ll also talk about how you’re feeling in your body, to support it to feel as good as possible in pregnancy. By the end of your visit, we’ll make a plan for your next appointment.

How often are prenatal appointments scheduled?

In the beginning of your pregnancy you’re seen as early as you want to be seen.

A typical schedule looks like this:

  • We’ll see you every 4 weeks until you’re 28 weeks pregnant.
  • At 28 weeks we start seeing you every 2 weeks until you’re 36 weeks.
  • From 36 weeks we’ll see you weekly until delivery.
  • Between 41-42 weeks we’ll likely start seeing you every 24-48 hours.
