What is a Birth Center?
A birth center is a freestanding space staffed by midwives that focus on out of hospital birth and well-person care for all stages of life.
Roots Community Birth Center was born out of a vision to make out-of-hospital birth accessible and welcoming for all families. Our space was created to make you feel comfortable, welcomed, at ease, and at home. We have extended that vision to make health care at all phases of life for all ages feel the same.
What to expect:
Care:
At Roots Community Birth Center, we wholeheartedly believe in and practice the Midwifery Model of Care. Those new to the Midwifery Model of Care will notice the gentle approach we take in all our visits. We take our time, we ask questions, and we listen. The hands-on approach of Community Midwifery Care is at its core a shared decision making model where birthing people are empowered to learn about their body and baby to make educated decisions.
Staff:
Birth centers are staffed by Midwives. Midwives are independent care practitioners for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. They provide holistic medical care during prenatal visits as well as during the birth and postpartum. Midwives also provide primary care for individuals from adolescence throughout the lifespan as well as care for the healthy newborn during the first 28 days of life. Midwives provide care for all individuals who seek midwifery care, inclusive of all gender identities and sexual orientations.
Pain medication:
Birth centers focus on non-medicated pain relief methods like relaxation techniques, hydrotherapy, and emotional support. Common medicated birth services like an epidural are not offered at a birth center.
Movement:
At our birth center you have the ability to freely move around and change positions during labor. Having this freedom of movement can allow for more comfort and help in facilitating labor progression. Some types of movement include walking, squatting, using a birth ball or stool, and more!
Food and drink:
Food and drink is encouraged in a birth center setting. Since you are not on medication there isn’t a concern for eating during labor. In fact, it is encouraged to eat and drink what you feel comfortable with in order to keep up your strength as you labor.
Partners and support people:
We let you choose who you want as a part of your support team. A birth center usually does not restrict the amount of people; it is based on who you feel would help facilitate your labor and goals.
Why choose a birth center?
If you are looking for a personalized, client-focused approach to your pregnancy and birth, then the birth center might be a great fit!
